I didn't expect to spend this many years in one specialty. But when patients trust you with something as personal as their face, you don't take that lightly.

My name is Rachel Barber. I'm a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and I've been practicing aesthetic medicine since 2013.

I became a nurse practitioner because I wanted more: more knowledge, more clinical depth, and more ability to practice with real expertise. Before aesthetics I spent years in high-acuity nursing: emergency medicine, pediatric ICU, NICU, chemotherapy infusion, perioperative care. I earned my master's degree with honors from Sonoma State University in 2011.

I spent four years in a busy Santa Rosa medspa before opening Lux in 2017 with one intention: to stop selling procedures and make recommendations based on expertise alone.

HOW I PRACTICE

I see a limited number of patients each day. Appointments are never rushed. I take time to understand your history, what's changed, and what you're actually hoping for.

I'll tell you what I think will help. I'll also tell you when I'd wait, when something isn't right for you, or when nothing is the best option.

Most of my patients have been coming for years. The procedure is part of what we do together. The relationship is the rest.

A LITTLE MORE

I grew up in a military family and came back to Ukiah after high school to be near family. I serve patients from Mendocino, Sonoma, and Lake Counties.  Local people who, like me, want quality aesthetic care close to home.

Outside the clinic I continue to attend aesthetic medicine conferences and courses, as well as, staying current on longevity, skin health, and hormones. These topics come up naturally with my patients and I want to be a useful resource when they do.
